The
day began with some words from Maria Fernanda,
the English Area leader and Lilia, the Spanish Area
leader. It was followed by some teachers’ plays that
made
us laugh: First of all, an English play called
“Wayside School” and then a play in Spanish called
“El Mancebo que Casó con Moza Brava”. Even though it
was a sunny day, everybody forgot the hot weather
and started laughing. It was the best beginning for
that wonderful day. Then we had a recess that was
followed by the poetry contest. First it was the
Spanish poetry contest and
then
the English one; but
it didn’t matter if it was English or Spanish,
everybody participated by listening or reciting;
everybody felt something special with the poems. It
was entertaining for the people who were watching
because the people who recited left their feelings
on the stage.
Then we had the Flag Raising ceremony. A poem was
recited by Martha Helena Salcedo and another one by
Nikola Pecjak. Next, recognitions were given to the
winners in “Cosecha literaria”. After that we had
some more plays recited by the teachers: one in
English called “Grease”, which was a musical, and
another one called “El Príncipe Saúl y la Niña
Tulia”. It was funny because we, the students, saw
the teachers dancing and acting in some plays and
that is not something that you can see everyday.
After lunch in Primary we had some plays prepared by
the students. It was exciting to see our friends act
as well. In high school we had debates, both in
English and Spanish. Then the day ended. It was a
wonderful day, everybody participated and I think
most of the people liked it. The Language Day shows
us that languages are more than simple languages.
They are communication tools that help us express
our feelings. In conclusion, the Language Day is one
of the most wonderful days of the school year.
